
Vittorio Gallese (M.D., Ph.D.) is a neurologist and Full Professor of Psychobiology at the Unit of Neuroscience in the Department of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Parma. He is a Senior Research Scholar at the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in America at Columbia University, New York, USA, and an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Philosophy of the School of Advanced Study at the University of London, UK. Professor Gallese is also an Honorary Member of the American College of Psychiatrists and a Member of the Academia Europaea. As a cognitive neuroscientist, he is one of the discoverers of mirror neurons. His research focuses on the relation between the sensorimotor system and social cognition by investigating the neurobiological grounding of intersubjectivity, psychopathology, language, and aesthetics. He is the author of more than three hundred scientific publications and five books.
