Elisabetta Canepa (MS.Eng., Ph.D.) is an architect and researcher in the Department of Architecture and Design at the University of Genoa. After completing the Resonances project (2021–2024) as a Marie SkÅ‚odowska-Curie fellow, she became principal investigator of the EU-funded AURA project (2025–2028). Her research explores the intersection of architecture, aesthetics, and cognitive science, with a focus on atmospheric dynamics, the emotional dimension of architectural experience, embodiment theory, the empathic relationship between people and space, and virtual reality experimentation. Canepa is a faculty member in the Neuroscience Applied to Architectural Design (NAAD) Master’s Program at the Iuav University of Venice and serves on the Advisory Council of the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture (ANFA). She also teaches as a lecturer and studio critic in collaboration with the Departments of Architecture at Kansas State University (KSU) and Florida International University (FIU). She is the author of Architecture is Atmosphere: Notes on Empathy, Emotions, Body, Brain, and Space (Mimesis International, 2022).
