Chiara Rizzi (M.Sc., Ph.D.) is an architect and Associate Professor of Architectural and Urban Design at the University of Basilicata, Department for Humanistic, Scientific, and Social Innovation (DIUSS). Here, she carries out action-research activities in the Nature-City Lab. Her main interests focus on the interaction between human settlements and natural ecosystems. Professor Rizzi combines teaching and researching architecture with civic militancy, which leads to liaising with associations and collectives active in urban, social, and cultural regeneration. In 2018, she was part of the collective “Arcipelago Italia” — the team of the Italian Pavilion at the 16th Venice Biennale of Architecture, curated by Mario Cucinella. In 2021, her research “Convivium Park” was selected for the section “University: Resilience Agencies” within the Italian Pavilion at the 17th Venice Biennale of Architecture, curated by Alessandro Melis. Walking is one of her primary devices of investigation and design: Professor Rizzi is part of the Scientific Committee of the inter-university network “Laboratorio del Camino.” She is responsible for scientific research in the action “Cultural Landscape and Narrative Itineraries” (goal 4.3 PP1, action 4), within the EU-funded program “Tech4You — Technologies for Climate Change Adaptation and Quality of Life Improvement;” she has coordinated the pilot project of the slow crossing network of the Basilicata Region for the Regional Landscape Plan. Professor Rizzi published over a hundred of papers and edited books with Italian and international publishers.
